After a few rumours and a couple of leaks, Google Now has finally arrived on iPhone and iPad, in the form of an update to the Google Search application. The app does many things in the same way as on Android, including Cards and syncing with your Google account. However, it is far less integrated with iOS than it is with Android, so the experience is slightly less satisfying.
Google haven’t given one of their best features to iOS, they’ve only given a bite of it.
A couple of months ago, a Google Now themed Android music player appeared on Reddit. At the time, the design was just a concept but thankfully, somebody saw this concept and decided to make the real deal, named ‘Now Playing’, which is available as an APK right now.
Google Now is probably one of the best features of Android at the moment, and it’s packed with little features which could be useful at any time. I just found out about this feature yesterday, but it’s extremely useful and eliminates the need for a lot of popular applications.
As I covered yesterday, an update to the Google Search app for Android brought a number of new features, including widgets for the home and lock screen. However I was unaware that, in some places, the image at the top of the Google Now app is replaced with the Doodle from Google.com.
Here’s a neat little feature which could be making an appearance on Android in the near future. A widget version of Google Now, which displays a round-up of your cards, has been spotted on Google’s support pages, which has since been removed.
Personally, I really like the current method of accessing the entire app from the lockscreen, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a widget summarising the day.
It’s hard to know when we can expect to see this widget released, but now that it’s been leaked I doubt Google will keep it in the dark for much longer.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Google really know how to create heart-warming adverts. This one, advertising the Nexus 4 and Google Now, is the latest to be released, and it really delivers on promoting the Google Now service.
This time 18 months ago, the voice assistant was a thing of the future. Now, it’s very much a thing of the present, and it has gradually transformed into yet another technology battle between Apple and Google, as well as poor attempts from Samsung and individual app makers. Here’s some information about the latest technology craze.
The battle between Google and Apple will probably never end. Both companies produce amazing products which are tested and compared each year, and usually the public decides on a winner. One thing we never thought we’d see though, is Google recommending the iPad in one of its key features, Google Now on Android Jelly Bean.
Google have released another two incredible adverts for their services. The first focuses on a father, who uses Google Now to impress his son with knowledge about the universe. The second is based around a person who uses Google Goggles to look knowledgeable in a job interview.
Even though the adverts are brilliant, I don’t think any amount of adverts can do justice to how great Google Now actually is. You really don’t realise how useful it is until you actually try it for yourself.
